On your 3rd Birthday William-Bear

Dear William,

You’re another year older! 3 whole years! Such a big man and a little boy all wrapped into one. People say you talk like a 4 year old, and I tend to agree. Such a well-spoken little gentleman most of the time. Why you still don’t enjoy baths is a mystery to me, since you keep asking every day if it is warm enough to go swimming. Left up to your own devices you would spend your days playing angry birds, fighting power-ranger bad guys, and eating ‘snacks’ of all varieties. Potty training still eludes you, but you’re getting better at it every day. One of these days we’ll be diaper free.

You’re a pretty good big brother. It is helpful that Christopher enjoys your rough and tumble style of play. He thinks you’re so funny! You can make him laugh more than Daddy or I ever can. Sharing can be difficult, but the two of your will learn about it together.

Today you told me the trees had marshmallows on them. It turns out they’re just flowering for spring, but I certainly enjoy your take on the world. You also told me that we should pick up Daddy from work because “he’s the best”, although when pressed you decidedĀ “Mommy and Daddy are both the best”, which made me smile. We discussed how Debbie, Kimmie, and Alyssa would be waiting for you at daycare. We decided Mikey might also be there. I asked if you like Mikey, and if he’s nice to you–you simply replied “Everyone is nice to me”, which makes my heart feel warm and fuzzy. I want everybody to always be nice to you, even though I know this is a complete impossibility in life.

Happy birthday to the boy who made me a mommy, and grows funnier every day. I look forward to the next year of not-so-terrible 3’s. You’re a pleasure, and I’m glad I’m your mom.
