My brother and his girlfriend were scheduled to visit over Labor Day weekend this year, and we decided that since that was also our 12-week pregnant mark, we would wait until this time to make any widespread announcements. Of course some of my coworkers found out during my “feeling rather sick” phase, and I had told a few close friends but outside this group we kept things pretty hush-hush.
With the birth of Baby Bx, my brother will be a first-time uncle, so in celebration I made him the following t-shirt:
We gave it to him as a “welcome to Salt Lake” present. I think he said something along the line of “Wait a second, does this mean….?” We also thought it would be fun if he helped us announce it to the rest of the Baxter family. On Labor Day we had arranged to have dinner with Jason’s brother, parents, and grandparents at the ranch in Logan. My brother wore his new t-shirt and for the longest time no one said anything about it. Then at dinner Jason asked his brother Jeremiah, “so, did you catch on to Jim’s t-shirt?”. Blank stares around the table, until Lee asked out loud “Wait, is this meant to be some sort of announcement??” My mother-in-law’s face went quickly from confusion, to recognition, to screaming within a couple milliseconds. Then there were hugs all around.
For my parents it will be the first grandchild. For Marion and Lee it will be the 2nd grandchild, but the first to be currently living in Utah. It will make my brother, as well as Jason’s sister and brother-in-law uncles and aunt for the first time. There is excitement all around on both sides of the family and just for fun my sister-in-law Misty, my old college roommate, AND one of my best friends from high school are all pregnant at the same time. 🙂
