Overdue…the blog that is…not the baby.

I just realized my last official comprehensive blog update was way back in October when we announced Baby Bx is going to be a boy. Holy cow I’ve been dogging it.

Last month we attended the wedding reception of cousin Kyle and his new wife Stephanie. Now there will be two Stephanie Baxter’s in the Baxter family…along with two Andy’s and two Jason’s. At least in the cases of the Andy’s and Jason’s the last names are different. It reminds me of ‘Old Christine’ vs. ‘New Christine’ from that television show. I guess this makes me ‘Old Stephanie’. Fortunately ‘New Stephanie’ seems quite nice. The reception was very nice and gave us a chance to see the Baxter side of the family right before Thanksgiving including cousins who were visiting from TX that we won’t see again for quite some time.

For Thanksgiving Jason and I refinished our bathtub!! Back when Jason bought the house it became apparent that the tub had been repainted…somewhat poorly. Eventually the cover-up paint started to chip, revealing an ugly brown bathtub. For over a year we had a speckled tub as the paint slowly chipped away and last winter when we installed new tile in the kitchen and bathroom we stripped off the chipping paint and purchased a tub refinishing kit. Of course, as life goes things got busy and the refinishing kit sat unused while we continued to use our ugly brown tub. We had intentions of refinishing the tub this fall before my brother and his girlfriend visited but realized upon reviewing the instructions that the paint was supposed to ‘cure’ for 72 hours. Long story short, we only have one bathroom and therefore would be without a shower for 3 days. We decided Thanksgiving provided us the opportunity to refinish the tub and then visit the ranch in Logan for the weekend. Thanksgiving eve, and Thanksgiving morning Jason diligently worked to refinish the tub while I tried to stay out of the paint fumes. We managed to set off our carbon monoxide detector (which also has an explosive gas alarm feature) and as I stood outside in the cold trying to turn it off I realized that it must have appeared as if we were having a Thanksgiving dinner cooking disaster! I have included some before and after pictures below. We’re hopeful that this paint job will hold up until we decide to sell the house. Jason said that for $50 he’d be willing to do it again if it needed a touch-up before we show the house to potential buyers. It is DEFINITELY an improvement from the original paint job, or the ugly brown tub we were putting up with.

Thanksgiving spent at the ranch was relaxing. It was a small group this year, comprised of Jason’s immediate family (minus siblings on the east coast) and several older relatives. We hung out and I worked on Christmas cards and catching up on sleep. We headed back to Salt Lake on Saturday morning leaving a half of a weekend to do our regular weekend catch-up. It was perfect!

For any of you who saw on the national news that everyone out west blew away a few weeks ago, we are happy to report we’re still here and intact. Those living 15 to 20 minutes north of here however were not so fortunate, as there were millions of dollars in damage to property from the winds that uprooted trees, unshingled roofs, and knocked down signs and fences. We were lucky to miss that one!

Baby Bx continues to grow, and beat on my insides like a drum. I passed my glucose test this week, but found out that I’m slightly anemic. An additional iron supplement should fix that. I can’t say as that I’m surprised given my already gluten-free diet combined with an aversion to red meat for most of this pregnancy (mostly due to potential indigestion). I’ve expanded my maternity wardrobe considerably lately and should have looked into getting stock in Motherhood Maternity. I just want to be comfortable, which thankfully, other than my now twice-nightly bathroom breaks I have been.

I was hoping for some snow in Salt Lake to set the mood for Christmas, but so far all we’ve gotten is a nasty smoggy inversion. We are now preparing for our Christmas visit to share the growing bump with WI and it doesn’t sound like we’ll have any of the white stuff there either. At least we will get out of this inversion for a bit. I need to do some Christmas shopping yet before we leave, but our house/cat sitter is all lined up (Thanks cousin Ashley!!) and all that’s really left to do then is pack. Please message me for more details if you’ll be around and want to get together!

Merry Christmas everyone!

S.~
