It’s been 2 weeks since we added little Christopher to our family. So far he’s been a joy to have. The delivery and recovery process has been so much simpler than it was with William. I know this is partially because I have more experience under my belt, but also because Christopher is just a mellow little dude. He really only cries when he is hungry, and he is such a good eater that he was on a pretty predictable 3 hour feeding schedule starting day one. He has his nights and days slightly confused, but when he’s awake at night he doesn’t really cry, so someone rocks him (Jason or I) and the rest of the household can get some sleep. When he’s awake he likes to hang out and study faces and voices. I don’t remember Will ever being so in tune with studying faces, so I really enjoy the quality face-time with this new guy. Like his brother, he virtually never spits up and he’s not really a fan of the binkie although he hasn’t taken to his thumb yet either. Perhaps with how mellow he is, he won’t really need either. I’ve been pondering lately whether his eyes might be blue…they definitely aren’t as obviously brown as William’s were. Such fun new adventures with this one!
Thankfully, I’m SO much less exhausted this time. I have made a point of taking a nap almost every afternoon. It is also helpful that Chris is a faster eater than Will, so when we’re up in the night it doesn’t take forever to feed/change/resettle him. My healing from surgery continues to be better than last time as well. I was off all pain meds as of day 9 this time, and tonight I took off the remaining steri strips and my incision looks amazing. My body has bounced back quicker this time as well, and I’m sure it will help as I’m able to go on longer walks in the coming weeks (I’m still taking it easy to avoid being sore). The only slightly negative thing I’ve encountered is that I think shortly prior to Chris’s birth I started experiencing occasional painless migraines…basically an aura with no associated headache. I think I’ve seen them called ‘ocular migraines’, and I’m hoping when I’m more rested and less stressed they will just go away. (Don’t worry, I’ve been in touch with my OB and Primary Care doc, and will see an ophthalmologist just to make sure it isn’t something more serious).
Other milestones as of lately: William got his last baby tooth! Yay! We are officially on a break from teething. I hope Christopher holds out for at least another 5 or 6 months. 🙂 Christopher had newborn photos taken last Friday, so in the coming weeks I will have photos to share. Also his 2 week pediatrician visit is tomorrow so we will have updates on his growth. Maybe it is because I’m strictly in charge of feeding him at this point, but the little updated growth charts are always something I look forward to in sort of a nerdy way.
William got to play with his cousins this week. Here are a few of my favorite pictures!
