Happy Birthday to my April baby! This year you have really blossomed from a little boy into a big kid. Going back to school in person this fall after finishing kindergarten online and being stuck at home all summer was the best possible thing for you. I’ve never seen a kid so happy to go to school, even if admittedly you’re NOT a morning person. 🙂
This was the year you lost a boatload of teeth, learned to ride your bike without training wheels, and went from reading small books (Piggie and Gerald) to full length chapter books (Heroes in Training). A 2nd kid who LOVES to read in our household. How awesome that is! Christopher would prefer to stay up reading late into the night, much like I did as a kid, however William (aka The Lights Out Police) isn’t quite so accommodating. It’s good he makes sure the lights get turned out at a reasonable time however, as I mentioned previously you are NOT a morning person.
7 year old Christopher is obsessed with all things Pokémon. You can remember so many characters and their evolves that I don’t know how there is room for anything else to fit in your brain. I wish that same memory was dedicated to putting away your cereal bowl and getting the laundry into the hamper, but I digress. This year your birthday cake request was Pikachu and I happily obliged!
You are still my sensitive one. You feel everything so big! I hope this never changes about you, but I also hope we can teach you some tolerance for when the world (and your brothers) are loud and obnoxious. You’re also still my sensitive stomach. Poor buddy, you’re just like your mama was with your propensity for feeling motion sick. Staying home for almost a year and not driving anywhere sure didn’t help much on that front. Motion sick meds might be your best friend, but we’ll make sure you still have fun.
Where William needs constant companionship and interaction, you are definitely a kid who needs his alone playtime as well. You two are best buds, but we’re much more likely to find you squirreled away someplace playing solo than either of your brothers. This year you took a particular interest in Legos and built quite a few cool creations.
You are my most outgoing at school and excited about dress up days and school spirit days in ways that your older brother never was. Just like in Kindergarten, Vanessa is your bestie at school in 1st grade. You two are such cute friends. Vanessa’s mom points out you are sometimes like an old married couple in how you know each other’s likes and almost finish each other’s thoughts. She says it would be a shame if you didn’t get married some day! I think 7 is probably a little young to start hoping for that. 🙂
Christopher, we love you bunches. I hope this next year brings more learning and growth. Please stay exactly who you are and still be my little boy sometimes! Happy 7th birthday dude!
