We’ve Reached Double Digits! (William is 10!)

William is 10! We have raised a child to double digits! The greatest thing about 10 year olds is they are big enough to be helpful. Actually helpful–when they feel like it. This past year William has taken an interest in learning how to cook some basic things. He now knows how to make
French toast, spaghetti (or other pasta), grilled cheese, and cinnamon rolls (from a can). He also brews a pretty good cup of coffee for his wonderful mother. 😉

William continues to be smart as a whip. In 4th grade he has already worked through a good portion of the 5th grade math curriculum. He had an especially wonderful pair of teachers this year who really helped push him. Luckily one of them (Mr. H) is moving up to 5th grade and will be his teacher again next year. Mr. H was blown away to find that William’s reading proficiency is at a high school level which makes sense to me as he loves to read anything he can get his hands on. Reading time in our house is every night from 8:00-9:00 PM. It is a part time job for me to keep him and his brothers stocked with fresh books from the library so it’s great to find out he’s become such a wonderful reader!

William’s hobbies include computer games (mostly Roblox and Minecraft), soccer, reading, and riding his bike. His favorite TV shows are Gravity Falls and Big City Greens. Will’s favorite color is currently Green. His favorite foods are spaghetti (with mom’s homemade sauce) and the Baconator from Wendy’s. He loves Theo but can’t understand why he chooses to snuggle me rather than him despite his luring him each night with treats.

William is wired a lot like his mom, which can be a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. He tends to be a bit anxious and really hates to be the center of attention. He does best in predictable situations with a consistent schedule. He likes to know the plan ahead of times and it stresses him out to not know what to expect. On the bright side he’s organized. You should see his dresser drawers. He’s good about telling us what’s going on at school. He’s punctual and always ready early each morning. He decides out of the blue that his bookshelf could use organizing, which I’m never going to argue with.

William also is starting to deal with some of the downsides of being a tween. We’re getting to learn about fun tween things like zits and stinky feet. (Oh lord, the stinky feet). He’s not a little boy anymore but not quite a teen yet either. I personally think 10 doesn’t seem like too bad of an age to be. We’re looking forward to what the next year brings. Happy Birthday Buddy!
