Christopher is 10!

Christopher has turned 10, and with that another birthday season has come to an end.

Christopher continues to be a sweet kid and a goof. He’s got big feelings and I can only imagine what the tween years are going to bring with this one. He’s a bid distractable but to make up for it has the best giggle on the planet. He continues to be a night owl and gets particularly goofy at bedtime (much to the frustration of his tired mother). He is a bookworm. He thinks we can’t see him reading under his blanket even though his reading light lights the whole thing up like a giant glow-worm.

Chris is obsessed with his Creeper hoodie, reading, Gravity Falls, and grilled cheese. Chris is Kiki’s favorite–always has been. (As she ages I worry his tender heart won’t survive the heartbreak of her not being with us some day.) Chris has THE. BEST. SMILE. He smiles from his toes. Chris makes friends easily and is not afraid to introduce himself, which I love. Chris is a great kid all around. I worry being the middle child he doesn’t know how thankful we are for him and his upbeat attitude.

Christopher learned to ski this year and played rec soccer. He’s a cautious and conservative skier but seems to enjoy it. In soccer his favorite position is playing goalie and he’s quite a bit better at it than I expected. Chris got his first phase of braces off this year and looks so grown up! He’s still tall for his class but not as tall as his bestie Isaak.

Christopher’s arch nemesis is his brother Andrew. They continue to irritate one another to no end. Chris is easily irritated and Andrew knows exactly how to be irritating–a match made in heaven I suppose. Hopefully some day as adults they will be friends and I can look back at this and laugh. My brother and I are now great friends and I’m pretty sure I wanted him dead right up until I left for college. In discussing this trouble with a 20-something coworker she confessed she also HATED her younger brother but they became best friends in their 20s. When I asked her if there was anything her parents could have done differently at the time to help them get along as children she emphatically told me “Nope!!”. I guess this is the joy of having siblings.

One of very few pictures of the two of them together!

Happy Birthday to my middlest-middle boy child Christopher. I hope you know how much I sure love you!!
