Monday, July 11th 2011. I was half-awake and ignoring my alarm clock as per my Monday usual. I was having this semi-lucid dream about taking a pregnancy test and being pregnant. I’m not really the type of person who gives much credence to lucid dreams. However, I woke up and REALLY had to pee, so I figured ‘why not’? I had taken a pregnancy test a few days earlier, which had been predictably negative, after all, what are the chances of getting pregnant basically your first month out? And then…there it was. A faint pink vertical line. I had previously only seen this particular line in the test instructions insert that comes in the box. I proceeded to call Jason at work until he answered. “I think we might be pregnant” I told him. Turns out Jason didn’t accomplish much at work for upwards of an hour. Then I called my mom. “I think I might be pregnant” I told her. Then I tried to totally dismiss the idea completely. I convinced myself that I must have screwed up the test somehow. I shouldn’t have bought these cheap generic ones as they probably aren’t as reliable. I went to work and tried not to think myself into a frenzy. On the way home I bought a two-pack of the expensive digital pregnancy tests and tried again. “Pregnant”. Gulp. The cheap generic test might have been right.
Thursday, July 14th, 2011. I met with my favorite doctor–doctor Susan–and explained to her that I thought there was a chance that I might be pregnant. I told her I had taken 3 pregnancy tests and they all said pregnant. Naturally I now wanted a blood test just to make sure. (Mind you, I took the 3rd pregnancy test that very morning before going to the doctor since there wasn’t much point in wasting Susan’s time if I wasn’t in fact pregnant.) Turns out the blood test thought I might be pregnant as well. Gulp.
