Swingin’

Swingin'

In  the past few days, Will has started to tolerate, if not almost enjoy, his swing. It was a grab off the classifieds, so thankfully even if he doesn’t get much use out of it we still only paid $35.  So he’s been chilling with these two chicks and an elephant with silly comb-over ears (see picture). He has also more consistently been finding his fingers to chew on. Apparently he has become too cool for pacifiers for now. Among his other interests: staring at the ceiling fan, smiling when Daddy makes funny noises for him, and lots of kicking and cooing (between naps). I ordered an activity mat/play gym for him this week and can tell that in a week or two he’s going to have so much fun with it! He is finally to the point that you can leave him on the floor for 5+ minutes and he can entertain himself without having a meltdown.

In other news, Jason took 2 night feedings in a row, and I retreated to the basement to try to get some sleep. I still wake up every 4 hours or so (partially because I need to pump), but having a break the last couple nights has been amazing! I think it also gave Jason a good taste of how my nights go on most of his work days. For some reason we haven’t seen Will sleep more than 4 hours at a time at night now for a few days now. Man I am missing those 5 1/2 hour blocks and hope they will be back pronto! Another realization: unlike the angelic images of breastfeeding moms out there for the general public to see, getting out of a warm bed at 3:30 in the morning in order to partially disrobe your top-half for an impatient crying child only to be scratched, pulled, and pinched is not exactly the “breastfeeding” I had in mind. We’re going to stick with it however (with the occasional bottle-feeding reprieve) knowing that for every feeding that tests my patience, we also have a few good mostly peaceful ones thrown in there.

I’m currently taking free advice regarding air travel with a 2-month old. What do you do with their car seat? How do you navigate security without holding everything up? Is it true that some regular sized airplanes (not regional jets) do not have changing tables?

Can you tell I have a lot on my mind?? 😉
