Dear Blog,
I have been neglecting you. I apologize. Since we last spoke, we took a trip to WI to visit the family. While there, William learned to crawl (at 6mos), cut his 2nd tooth (sorry I may have forgotten to tell you he got his first tooth September 12th), and made friends with my parents’ dog. He was a good traveller in both directions. Because I’m writing this blog after the fact, I have since forgotten the 15 minutes of crying while we landed in Minneapolis while Mama was oh so queasy from the plane ride. I am adding a video summarizing William’s fun in WI. If you watch closely, you can see Uncle Jim run him into a chair. William didn’t even seem to notice. 🙂
When we got back William had his 6 month well-child visit crawling and officially sporting 2 bottom teeth. He was 90th percentile for length (28″), 65th percentile for weight (18.63lbs) and 94th percentile for head circumference (18.1″). The doctor says he’s progressing perfectly and we might have an early walker…this Mama tends to agree!! More recently we’ve started a few table foods and rice puffs with him. He’s getting really good at grabbing food and putting it into his mouth. We think he’s going to be a righty. He’s also gotten much better at sitting up. It is a little funny, but he actually got better at sitting AFTER he learned to crawl. Once he figured out it was something he saw a purpose in doing, he got good at it really fast.
We’re packing up our house! We had an accepted offer on a house closer to where I work and are set to close on the 17th. It is a massive brick rambler. It is a ‘fixer-upper’ of sorts, mostly because it is really dated. I’m talking green and red shag carpeting, a pink/grey rose bathroom, and an outdated kitchen. The great part is MORE SPACE…about 1650 sq feet on the main floor, and a third of an acre. Hard to find in the city, and so exciting for the two of us. It has great indoor/outdoor space for entertaining, and with a little paint/carpet it will look marvelous! (Did I mention the solid oak hardwood under that nasty green shag?!?). Stay tuned for progress pictures coming soon.
All of the stress of a new house and baby was compounded for the last 10 days with a massive head cold. As of Tuesday I thought I might have a sinus infection. Wednesday my cold started to get better, but my lips became covered in water blisters! I have never had such a thing. By Friday, it was difficult to smile and talk and I went to the doctor. Turns out he thinks my cold virus manifested into the blisters on my lips. He prescribed some topical steroid cream which is working wonders. Funny thing, if you Google “blisters on lips” everyone just tells you you have herpes…I knew this thing wasn’t herpes…but man SO UNCOMFORTABLE. Apparently it’s the “I have a 7-month old that doesn’t understand we need to sleep, I’m working full-time, and buying a house” cold.
I hate to tell you, it may be awhile before I do much serious blog posting again. We’re trying to figure out how to find time to paint at the new house after we close, get all of our stuff moved, and get our current house rented out. All this while chasing a very mobile 7 month old. Eeee! I’m thankful I’ve had some offers for watching William so we can get stuff done. It’s times like these I wish my WI friends were closer. At this point I’m just looking forward to decorating for our first Christmas in our new house! We will be taking lots of pictures, but it may take a little while to get them posted. You are all invited out for a visit! Until our family gets any bigger we will have 3 extra rooms (OMG I’m so excited!). Come out for a ski vacation this winter!
I hope you are all doing well.
